Hello! so I've got a Toshiba Satellite L855D for almost a year now and recently uptdated from linux mint 14 to 15, but I didn't backup my data correctly. I ran testdisk to start a file recovery but when it finished running the computer rebooted and from then on it's been asking me for a pasword for the hard disk (Enter HDD/SSD password).

so..... what does this means? i didn't put any password

Solution
Yeah in your BIOS you somehow entered a PW on the drive or that is someone else drive put in there that is encrypted (sure you didn't enable Linux encryption or something?).

yep, pretty sure. It gets all black and opens a blue (BIOS like) window asking for such password just like this:

Agreed. This was set by someone.

Oh, didn't know that sorry. I can assure you I'm the owner, but I'll get in touch with a Toshiba help desk.

Thank you anyway.
