Esc key does nothing when pressed

I have an Acer Aspire laptop with Windows 10, and in the past few days I've noticed that the Esc key does nothing when I press it. Shift+Esc and Fn+Esc do nothing either. No program that I've tried to use it with has worked. I don't know whether it's a software or hardware problem.

Shift + Esc, in Windows, should bring up Task Manager. That doesn't happen? If it works for Windows, but not for a given application/program, the issue lies with the program.

Can you manually open Task Manager? Right click the Windows start icon, and select TM from there.

If you cannot open, even manually, then something is blocking your ability to access.


How old is your OS install? Any suspicion of viruses etc?

I can open Task Manager but not by using Shift+Esc.

I have the most recent version of Windows 10 and I don't believe I have any virus or malware. Every other key is working fine, it's just Esc that's not responsive.

When running a fullscreen video from Youtube, or similar..... Does "Esc" exit full-screen?

If not, there may be an issue with the key/keyboard itself.

No, Esc does nothing. At this point I think it is a issue with the key, though I have no idea what it could be.

Keyboards die and replacements are cheap. Some laptops are easier to disassemble than others though.
