haha... andrewmd took the word "force" in the literal term. lol!

in the real world you can't consider certain references as a literal term. if we all did then things would have a different outcome, but we don't and it's why things in the world is complex.

again, by including internet explorer, it encourages people to not care about other possible browsers. this is the force that is imposed on the user. it tells the users that they don't need to worry about other possible web browsers because the one ms provided is good enough or whatever other reasons there are. this is the force that's considered an act of monopoly, not the literal force of restricting someone from installing something or what not. you see, you have to think and see outside the box, other wise you'll be taken advantage of.

it is a human problem and complexity and it's why we can't take things in a literal form.

@pochacco007

Taking things out of literal form means we can make anything we want out of anything that is said. Although lawyers are good at interpreting documents in their favor, I doubt legal documents are a ripe source of metaphor and allegory.

The simple fact is as follows. Microsoft is not forcing anyone to exclusively use IE, or even Media Player for that matter. Just because a non computer literate person think IE is "good enough" doesn't mean they have no alternatives to it.

The car example is valid. Not all people are car experts or enthusiasts, why should they be forced to purchase the standard seats, radio, windshield or armrest?

You talk about the human problem, so let's take a peek at the human condition. Most people want a turnkey solution. They don't care if the radio in their is a Pioneer or Sony, if the seats are made from company A or B. All they want is to listen to music and be able to sit comfortably when they drive.

Most people don't care what browser they use, as long as it gets them on the Internet.

The EU is a joke. Microsoft should just stop bundling a web browser and ftp client with Windows.

"...Most people don't care what browser they use, as long as it gets them on the Internet...." falconqc

you can find my reasoning from this guys quote. if you don't see and understand it then i don't know what to say. btw, how many liked the restrictions windows provided for direct x and the autodates?

when people are given the possible choice for freedom, they choose slavery.
