bwahaha, it's a little late for april fools day though!
The only thing that can explode in a pc and cause damage is the condensors. Condensors(Or capacitors as some call them) in pc's are too small to cause other then second degree burns on one's hand.

A processor, or ram could also explode. The result could be a puncture wound from the debris.
This only if the case would be opened.
With a closed case it is IMPOSSIBLE to get anything near to being harmed, unless you're actually sitting on the pc while it burns you to death as it gets overheated.

Another thing not mentioned was what kind of computer was it? A laptop? was it the Pc or perhaps a power stabilizer that killed him, and if it was the pc, what size was it? Was it a large server, or a small home computer?
Large servers also could come together with power stabilizers, or even transformers for extra large servers.
If a transformer exploded by a lightning bolt, that could be a reason, but in a metal case a 350W powersupply is only capable of giving a loud 'poof' and some black smoke.

Perhaps it was an act of terrorism?
