Solved! external hard drive not connecting

Recently I noticed my external hard drive disonecting. when I moved it around it would reconnect so I bought another wire and it worked for a bit but now its doing the same thing and only connects when I hold down the wire where its connected to the external. does anyone know a fix for this. I tried different fixes for hard drive dissonection issues but none have worked. I also tired to plug into another laptop and same problem but for some reason when I tried it on a old windows 7 pc it worked perfectly fine

Could be a connector issue on the drive bay not the cable. I'd guess when you tested it on the Win 7 system it never moved enough to find that flaw or it simply handled disconnecting for a split second better.
