external monitor issues

Hey guys, so im having some external monitor issues...i connected my laptop to the monitor and looked in the display setting but only 1 display is available...ive downloaded the drivers but it didnt seem to work. The only way my external monitor works is if i turn my laptop off then turn it back on and close the lid...the data is automatically pushed and opens on my external monitor...when i try to look through the display setting on my external monitor, my laptops monitor doesnt work...help a brotha out! thanks in advance

you have to enable the port. look at the F-keys, one should have something resembling a monitor. press fn+ that f key while the screen is open and it should pop up

yeah ive tried Fn + F8 and Win + P ...but it didnt seem to work...thanks for your suggestion

Go into the BIOS/UEFI and see if there is a setting for the secondary monitor. it could be disabled.
