[citation][nom]kinggraves[/nom]If he went to prison for a cause the inmates would've went easier on him for being a person with principals. [/citation]

Internet toughguys are very different from proper toughguys. And one has to be a proper toughguy to get respect among the inmates.

[citation][nom]lilotimz[/nom]Why waste such an asset (a hacker) when you can offer them generous terms to forward your own goals... they're all most likely going to be making 6 digits soon... lucky Sob's...[/citation]

The FBI doesn't work like that. Most likely the leader of the group decided to co-operate when he realized that he was facing 20 years in prison. Right now he's trying to work that down to a simple felony conviction + probation. His "friends" won't even anyone to roll on, since he already ratted everyone out, so they will have to go to prison for a couple of years.

[citation][nom]officeguy[/nom]Are you serious Jackson. That shouldn't be a "tough" choice... Family before Friends. Hope you never have to make that decision for your kids or futures kids sake!![/citation]

He should have made that decision before he did the crime.

Don't do the crime, if you can't do the time.

A snitch is just a snitch and is always a low life.

the head of lulzec gets let off for giving up the underlings, didn't the US justice system used to work the other way, let the little fish off to catch the big fish ??? wow just wow

That's a bitch move. don't do the crime if you can't do the time. For those who are claiming he did the right thing, I ask you this did the rest of the group force him to help out? If not then he participated willingly.

If he participated willingly then do your bid and shut up if you get caught.

If you think they're going to general population or a federal PMITA prison, you're insane... These guys will be holed up in private prisons/homes where the government will basically say "Here's your job - do it."

They will comply, because let's be honest they have nothing better to do, and the media doesn't want to hear how the government is using them as "consultants" (Hackers) to get information from other countries.

Please folks, the only difference between corrupt countries and the US is that the other "corrupt" countries admit it.

Given the way the USA now works he was probably given a choice, do as your told or vanish into the penal system forever. The USA could possibly be the most hipocrytical country in history.

just because the movies show you (and you hear occasionally) about people getting caught in the crimes they are experts in doesnt mean the FBI recruits every one of them. (Catch me if you can, or even the USA Series White Collar) But what a hypocrite Sabu is, lucky enough to be the first one caught, he gets to make a deal as he turns in his co-conspirators.

But i do agree, what a waste to a talent but with how angry these people were against governments and any sort of authority, how could any of them ever accept a job with the gov't.

These individuals are obviously very smart and talented, though some of the hacks were very amusing, they were very unnecessary and immature,

When you have an opportunity, why not take it? That's not hypocritical - that's smart. You catch these hackers that have managed to do a lot of damage and you use them to get to others who can cause some real damage such as drug lords, terrorist cells, foreign spies, and nations like Iran/North Korea.

To those saying the government will just hire these people...no.

The government hires good hackers. If it takes no more than a couple months for the FBI to snag you, you aren't a good hacker. Lulz Sec aren't good hackers, they are simply famous ones, much like Kevin Mitnick. Mitnick was primarily a social engineer, he just convinced people to grant him access to their systems. From there, he did tons of damage, but little actual hacking was involved.

Instead of social engineering, Lulz Sec took advantage of the fact that there are tons of very insecure systems out there. Every single attack I've heard of them doing was a result of one thing, and one thing only. Failure on the part of the victim to prevent the hack. They've been using the most well known, and simple, exploits there are to compromise accounts, occasionally just guessing passwords when the administrator failed to use a secure one.

This barely qualifies as hacking, and certainly isn't impressive. The government won't put these people to use, they're going to crucify them. They're going to use these people to send a message, loud and clear. You are not anonymous, we will catch you and you will go to prison.

Expect maximum sentences in federal prison for all of them, minus Sabu since he cooperated. He'll probably end up with community service or some other slap on the wrist.

I just wish the hackers would focus their energy on shutting down all child pornography sites/serves first instead of attacking those big corps.

If there is a hack group that focus on purging child pornography, I will happily donate $$ for their work.

It's called the FBI and Interpol. They've had some pretty big busts in the last year or so. The problem with vigilante justice in this area is the evidence is likely inadmissible. You might shut down the site, but none of the people involved get punished. They just set up shop somewhere else.

[citation][nom]kish20[/nom]Who wouldn't betray their "friends" for a chance to work for the FBI?[/citation]
[citation][nom]alidan[/nom]people with principals and conviction.[/citation]

Even people with principals and conviction would betray their "friend" to protect their kids..

Their kids weren't in any danger. The FBI doesn't put kids in jail unless they sell marijuana or something like that. The parent made the choice to do the crime. He should STFU and do the time.

When groups conduct high profile hacks, they set themselves up for these sorts of reactions. This should not surprise anyone, nor should it be surprising that someone is cooperating with the authorities. Happens all the time. There is no honor amongst thieves.....
