i want to buy a laptop for moderate gaming and web and graphics development, i want i5 or i7 (if quad core). I have shotlisted these laptops Dell Inspiron 15 5000 Series, Dell Inspiron 15 - 7000 series, HP Envy 15-j133TX, HP Envy Touchsmart 15-j109TX, HP Envy 15-J048TX, HP Envy 15-J111TX, HP Envy Touchsmart 15-j120TX. Please advice me on this

None of these are really anything to phone home about. While they're ok the graphics side is a bit lacking, out of all of these I think the HP Envy 15-j133TX is probably the better of them.

But depending on your budget, I'd say consider these.

Much better graphics compared to the ones listed above.

The ones that use the nvidia GT 740M, even with 2 GB of RAM aren't fantastic for gaming unless its simple games like Indie games or much older games. While its fine for Web and graphics design, if its going to be your main computer better to go for something better inside.

What is your budget? Do you prefer HP/Dell? If you're dead set on HP or dell conisder this one

Under customization select the 1920x1080 screen res and then select 4th generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4510U Dual Core Processor + 4GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 850M Graphics for CPU.

Should be strong enough to play most games on decent/medium settings, as well as be more than enough for your web/graphics design.

Hi Warukyure, i have finalized on two laptops

Lenovo Y50-70 IdeaPad (59-431090)
(4th Gen Intel Core i7 4710HQ- 8GB RAM- 1TB HDD + 8GB SSD-
15.6 Inches- Windows 8.1- 4GB Graphics GDDR5)

Asus G56JR-CN135H G, G551JM,
Intel Core i7 4700HQ - 15.6 inch, 1 TB HDD, 8 GB DDR3,
Windows 8.1, 2 GB Nvidia Geforce GTX760M GDDR5
which one will be good?

and out of these which one is good "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 850M 4GB DDR3" vs NVIDIA GeForce 840M DDR3 4 GB vs NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M 2GB DDR3 vs NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 4GB DDR3". if i have to compromise on budget.
4th Gen Intel Core i7 4510U vs 4th Gen Intel Core i5-4210U vs 4th Gen Intel Core i7 4700HQ vs 4th Gen Intel Core i7 4700MQ at base frequencies what will be there ratings or scores out of 10.
and i have been told that there is no dual core or quad core in "Intel core i" series, but i find that some of "Intel core i" series processors are dual core and some quad core. i am really confused.

All i5's in Laptops are Dual Core. i7's are depending on model, if its an i7 but ends with a U its a dual core, if its an i7 that has a Q its for Quad Core.

Of the 3 GPUs you listed, the GTX 850M is the best of those graphics cards.

Of the 2 Laptops, if the Y50 would be the best for your money.

OK so i7 4510u with 4gb nvidia gtx850 ddr3/ 4gb gt840m ddr3, will give better graphics performance
But shouldn't i7 4700mq with 4gb nvidia gt740m will perform better on CPU performance and decent graphics?

If you drop major gaming from the equation, then while doing the work you mentioned above then yes for sure the i7-4700MQ would have the best CPU performance. Things like Photoshop/Corel would benefit more from a stronger CPU anyways.

Things like Adobe/Pinnacle/etc will stress your CPU more but use relatively little GPU power. Gaming, depending on the developers and type of game stress the CPU relatively moderate and the GPU more.

Games from Blizzard however will tax the CPU more but can be played well on computers with weaker GPUs. As well as MMOs, they need more CPU as well.
