I have had my verizon AC400 plan since last August. I got it as I went off
for my first year of college, for the convienence all around and the
security it brings having it.

Problem is, I don't use my minutes! Last statement I used under 100 minutes,
and a bunchof them were from boredom and listening to my voice mail's
repeatedly!

I am keeping my cell phone come August, I will renew it. I am moving to
Hawaii this July and the cell phone will be a little more practical for
calling home to New York with the free long distance and mobility in the
rugged Waikiki beach and the like I still do not predict I will come
close to 400 minutes.

It's a little silly paying over $55 a month for something I use $2 worth. I
see I am currently on the lowest plan. Does this mean there is nothing I can
do, and if I want to keep the service I must stay on the AC400 plan and pay
the current price?

Verizon's got your balls in a vise and knows there are a lot like you, but
make it difficult to cater anything that's actually useful or benefits the
customer with awesome service. God for bid if they make a plan where you can
swap minutes from one month to another. Naaa, won't happen here...just
raised prices and terrible customer service. Only a matter of time until
they take a hard plunge.

So the 300 minutes/month AC plan for $35 that I've had for the past 2
1/2 years isn't offered?

land line or pay phone.

Get <http/www.k7.net/> for your free phone numbers(Seattle Numbers) for
incoming call(voice mail and fax) forwarding to your e-mail accounts.

Spend the money you save on something useful.

Brian, I agree with John: try free-up. 50 minutes a month for $15. If you
don't use your minutes (money) up, and add more money before the current
minutes expire, they "roll over".

For grins: say you decide to not move AND you want to keep your number, here
is a possibility, but "un-tried" LNP. Assumes you are OUT of contract, as
we don't want to incur any penalty. Also assumes that the carrier you use
in the middle can port within hours/days.
a) take your AC400 expired phone number to any other carrier
b) after the port over and within their guarantee period (if they have one)
take your number back to free-up
c) should work in theory, but no clue if it will work in a practical way.

That sounds expensive. http/www.pharosint.com/ has 15 to 25 cent a minute
prepaid plans. Their minimum is $10 every 3 months for a WHOPPING $3.33 a
month.

LD is included, all analog roaming, and free LD to 50 countries.

The bad part of Verizons free up is the $.99 roaming charge.
With the pharos int plans below it uses at&t tdma AND analog network, with
NO ROAMING EVER!

Doesn't verizon charge YOU by the min for a voicemail left, or even to be
attempted to be left in the case your voicemail is not set up yet?

Speaking of voicemail Pharos plans include voicemail, and of course does not
charge YOU for a caller to leave a voicemail.

The AC400 plan is now $40. Try switching to this plan.

That's what I currently have. When you add txt to the bill, all the fees and
surcharges, and now it seems I'm being charged $2-3 more in fees and
surcharges, my last bill was over $56. Since I'm already on the lowest plan,
I will likely stay with it; it will get much more use when I am in hawaii
than it has here at home.

That looks decent for the price, but I already have a nice verizon phone
(samsung a530) I like... I've made the decision to stay with verizon AC400
and hope to make the most out of my plan next month

I have an America's Choice 300 minute plan for $35 which runs about $38
with all the add ons. Better than $55. Check to see if that plan is
available to you.

The AC300 for $35 is a national offering. While you might not see it on the
brochure, ask about it. Worse case call customer service. Also, since you
are an existing customer, you may "petition" to get a plan change without
extending your contract, or staying month-to-month.

The reasoning: changing your minutes is worry-free, and does no extend your
contract. However, changing to a promotional plan does. You may be able to
convince CS that the AC300 does not have any promotional "anything", nothing
added for free, asking them to note your account that this is not an
extension. Try it, tell us how it works out. After all, VZW does have
terrific coverage, and they will value you as a customer.

I have discussed the $35/AC 300 plan many times with CS, trying to
'customize' the plan with MtoM or other features. The only way it was made
available to me was with 1,000 Night & Weekend minutes. The N&W minutes do
require a year's contract. But it's always worth it to ask.
