Fractal Rendering Hardware

My friend thinks his pc isn't running at max when rendering. But I've already gone through and checked settings and such. I know the GPU plays a smaller role when rendering, but I think it's what is holding him back. Am I wrong?

Software: Apoptosis 7

Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
AMD Phenom II X4 955 @3.2GHz
8GB RAM @667 MHz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti
1920x1080 Resolution

I looked for Apoptosis 7 software but could not find it. Did you mean Apophysis? I found the website but haven't found anything on system requirements. Is it a 32-bit or 64-bit application? Is there an option to use hardware acceleration? If yes, has you friend tried rendering the same project with it enabled and disabled to see if there is a difference in render times?
