Question Free calling

Why do some free call apps claim to be 100% free but theres a catch, you have to play surveys, puzzles, ect... in order to receive a certain amount of credits in order to place calls? Why do they operate this way claiming they were free right from the beginning? Has anyone come across anything like this? Sometimes if something sounds too good to be true then it probably is.... what do you guys think?

Pretty common, actually. Free Phones (sign up for service). Free web sites (need to login first). Free videos (need to view ads first).

Nothing is "free". it costs money to provide a service. Unless you have unlimited funds and are feeling philanthropic, you need to recoup those funds somehow.
