Please don't jump on me for this post.

I have always wanted a big dish and can now have one. Looking at alt...4dtv
and alt...satellite.trvo I don't see a lot of traffic. FAQs say there is a
good future for the big dishes, but, looking at the news groups I wonder why
more do not share? It must be the greatest channel flipping around.

Just wondering

the groups have been pretty quiet lately, i think a lot of people are
moving to forums to get away from spam and off topic postings.

http://www.4dtvforum.com/index.php

is a good start, there is also some yahoo groups with some traffic.
questions will generaly be answered if you do post here or the tvro
newsgroup.
good luck let us know when you get it going and what you get. I just got
into 4dtv and dvb this last year, bud is getting more active everyday,
don't listen to the pizza guys.

Sad news for all Big Dish owners with 4DTV. Motorola has announced the end of subscription services on December 31, 2010. This link has more info..

The switch to a small-dish setup is inevitable. But you can use a 'scalar ring' on your big dish feedhorn, and mount the head end from a small dish setup. That will give you about 5x stronger signal than the original design!
Have had my 'big dish' since the mid-1970s. Still useful for upgrade to the small-dish system, or FTA (Free to air), or MPEG signals with a new receiver.
