i recently got a new Galaxy S5, as my old one broke for unrelevant reasons. The only important thing is that throughout its life, it NEVER had headphone jack problems. When i got my new phone however, i immediately had headphone jack problems.
I think the problem boils down to this,
IF: The headphones have the 3 rings on the connector (supports Stereo sound and a mic)
THEN: I only get sound out of the right ear.
IF: the connector only has 2 rings (supports stereo sound but no mic)
THEN: my phone doesn't even recognize that there are even headphones plugged in.
I have already tried cleaning out the jack with numerous techniques (Pressurized Air, Poking something non-harmful inside to see if there was any lint or anything of the like inside, etc.) None of these have worked.
Is there anything i can do besides void my warranty and replace the jack on my own or take it back to my service provider (Verizon) and have them replace the phone AGAIN?
