Hey everyone,

I am currently looking into a new laptop and would like one that I could:

- use for work (I teach - doing work on the computer constantly)
- browsing, etc. (minimal tasks)
- and gaming (Skyrim, Witcher, NBA 2K, and similar games)

Thus, I would like something that is thin and portable, yet still powerful. I am willing to spend in the $1500 range and with some research came across the MSI GS720. It is currently for sale on Newegg for $1549 and as a bonus it comes with a free LED TV (the link is at the bottom).

Is this a good deal and worthwhile investment? Or, do you have alternatives where my money would be spent better elsewhere?

Thanks,

Tom

Regarding GPUs the HD8970m is slightly better than the GTX770m. However the i7-4700MQ is way better then the A10-5750m. So I would choose the i7-4700MQ + GTX770m rather than A10-5750m + HD8970m. Whatever your choice will be it's still better than the laptop in OP, with the GTX765m.

That looks like a great deal, I think you could get a better computer for the cash. However, if you are in the market for a "throw away" flat screen, then this seems right up your alley. If you want to check out other pure gaming laptops and get the most comp for your money check out Ibuypower, cyberpower, digital storm etc...

Thanks for the feedback - I checked up on a few more of the ultra thin gaming laptops and it seems as if they all have the GTX7765 (in my price range at least). It is going to come down to having that card, but with a fast processor and ssd drive (which is important to me) that is more portable versus a better performing machine that is bulkier and not portable. Why can't I have both??

You're welcome. Actually there are some possibilities like installing a SSD with a caddy, but then you'll have to take off the CD-drive. Marketing is what offers are, if you want the best you have to pay more.
