Personally, I have already pre-ordered the Acer Windows 7 tablet. Because the iOS and Android tablets don't do what I want, and I couldn't be bothered to add a touch sensitive overlay to a netbook. And if I really want iOS and Android apps, I can always launch the iOS or Android SDK within Windows.

I don't know about other but as a student, sometimes a laptop or a netbook can still take too much space because of the physical keyboard, do I prefer the physical keyboard over the on-screen one? yes, but I'd definitely trade it off for mobility and efficiency.

All the current "tablets" are nice, but none of them can provide full content support as my laptop, except for that Asus windows 7 tablet one, (that's one is nice, but the price tag is hefty =/, maybe there's other Win7 tablets, but all I've heard/seen was that Asus one)
So I prefer a laptop-like experience on a tablet, not some limited, under-power Mobile OS

I work at a company that makes business management software for ppl with service businesess- carpet cleaners, yard maintenance, maid/janitorial etc.

100% of my clients have asked for a Windows tablet so they can carry around our product and QUICKBOOKS. They need a wireless, portable point of sale. With QuickBooks in the field and a credit card swiping device these small business owners are going to cut their office time in half! Obv there is no impetus for Intuit to develop an Android compatible version of QB so it isn't coming any time soon, Windows on the tablet is going to be their only answer for 2+ years

I expect this will be mostly correct except I do think windows will have a lot more play in the market than people expect.

Asus EP121 - One of the best out there.
Dell Latitude xt2 - Build quality could be better, let down by a slooowww hard drive
HP TM2 - Very, very nice machine. Super glossy screen can be a pain
HP 2740p - Fantastic core i5 machine with extended battery if required
Motion Computing - Various machines, all high priced
Fujitsu Q550 - Latest atom based machine. Fujitsu do sell other convertibles

Just a few tablets/convertible laptops that you can currently buy. As long as pages like Engadget SLAM windows 7 tablets, the un-educated population will continue to ignore the machines above. If you can open internet explorer and browse the web with ease (Gestures/flicks), then emoty the recycle bin and/or write a quick note, then there's NOTHING wrong with Windows 7 as a touch device... .

really? there is integration? last time i was looking up tablets (the real os kind, not the 10 inch screen or less kind) was with an xp tablet. bur what it would take for my to buy one now is a wacom screen tablet.

that said here is my prediction.

ios will fall, mainly due to competition
microsoft will surprise everyone, with its introduction of a real os in a tablet.

and whoever gets 2 screens, 1 lcd and 1 that e paper type will win collage section and if amd makes a great apu (is that what they are called) with a sub 20 watt, that can play games at 720p at playable frame rates, and decent graphics settings, windows tables will get a bit more bulky to accommodated a bigger battery but we will have full "gaming" tablets.

apple cant compete there, well, they can, but they wont. there is still not 1 game on ios that is really worth it. infinity blade, while impressive visually, is an over all boring game, and thats really it for the time being.

To make a prediction for what will happen in the technical sector over any period longer than 12 months you are likely to be more accurate using tea-leaves and a crystal ball.

I think the forecast is off. Gartner's "forecast" is basically entirely extrapolation. While I do not think Window's tablets will be the dominate brand, I think they will have a descent percentage (I imagine they will be 3rd in Tablet percentages). Four years in the tech world is crazy to forecast.

I do want a tablet; however, I am going to wait until a Window's tablet comes out (probably 8). By that point the tablet should be pretty powerful and I can sync up with my desktops easily.

Very true back by demand. Five years ago they only partially knew about how smart phones would turn out to be such a big deal; heck, the iPhone only came out less than 4 years ago! Android wasn't even a thought to most consumers and business people.

That is what I am waiting for. The overwhelmingly vast majority of businesses use Windows. I think the serious market for Tablets hasn't even been touched yet. It would be nice to have Windows tablets that can sync up with myriad of Windows based business softwares out there.
