[citation][nom]Simonetti[/nom]IMO, the girl did what she wanted in a creative and resourceful way. She isn't old enough to get a job and work hard for it. So she wrote a letter and Nintendo obliged it. What is the big deal? Can't kids find resourceful ways to get what they want?I'd be concerned if she had stolen it or the money to buy it, or had done something illegal in order to get what she wanted, but that's not the case. She didn't do anything that I'd frawn upon.Besides, she wrote the letter because her teacher asked her to. What's the big deal? She wasn't greedy... she was doing an assignment. I don't see any problems in wanting stuff for free. We all would be hypocrites if we say we don't appreciate a gift every now and then.[/citation]
Yea I don't see it as wrong, it is more like extra credit for an assignment from school. She did what she was assigned to do and more and got rewarded for it, smart really.

[citation][nom]Camikazi[/nom]That kid has better handwriting then I do[/citation]
LOL, I was thinking the exact same thing. Although I don't know what's worse, not being able to read a letter because of handwriting or a grammatical retard. /me waits for a pat on the back

[citation][nom]Camikazi[/nom]Let them figure it out, most manufacturers will say no, and if they do learn it they will go through you and mom faster and leave you alone, and if they get free stuff (doubtful but guess i can happen) you don't pay for it[/citation]

You do have a point...

"Your mother and I said you couldn't have a DS until your grades improved. You will get it back when your averages improve."

Later that night, I'm relaxing on my bed with a new DS, thinking that I should tell my daughter that she can't have a new PC until she learns to clean her room...

Guess who pays for that DS. Nintendo gives away nothing for free.

This has nothing to do with it.

she already has a wii... they should have given the ds to a needy kid/someone who has done more to deserve this than simply want to play the games that are not on the system that they own.

Um, no one is in dire need of a nintendo ds/wii or any gaming console. If you really need a gaming console, that means you can already afford proper clothing, food, drink and a home (with electricity).

All she did was wrote a letter due to the teacher asked the class to. She did a C, but was awarded by Nintendo. I call it lucky, not greedy.

I remember when I was 11. My mom bought me a subscription to Nintendo Power magazine which I looked forward to every month.

One month they sent me duplicate copies of an issue(2); In which I wrote back with a clever(well I thought it was) title saying Nintendo Power Failure. I wasn't trying to be insulting or sarcastic but just wanted to report the mistake on their end so my mom doesn't get charged.

They politely wrote me back and gave me a story-like explanation as to why that might have happened and that I was welcome to keep the second copy free of charge. After reading the reply I remember having that "awesome" feeling like I just won the lottery.

I'm glad Nintendo, in whatever region they're in, still knows how to write back to kids at at that age group and make them feel "awesome" just like I felt.

Even in today's age where customer service inquiries are usually responded to by automated machines, Nintendo still hasn't changed in that regards.

Makes me miss the carefree days of my life hehe.

When I was 10 or something I wrote Nintendo to ask if I (and my brother) could have a few games to play (we were poor and the NES we owned was a gift). Nintendo responded with a nice letter thanking me for my interest and then explained that they would not send us a game for free, but instead listed several suggested "odd jobs" that we could do to raise the money needed to buy the games. I kept that letter for a long time, I wont ever forget it. It worked, we found ourselves work (with in reason, as we were only 10) and ended up buying over a hundred games... man do I regret giving our NES and games away!
