Going to school for IT

I'm going back to school and I need some guidance on a laptop to purchase. I know I need it capable of handling Linux and virtual machines. Budget is max at $600.

Weight, screen size? Really any laptop with a good amount of RAM will run VMs and Linux. Check out the Lenovo X and T models, they are a bit on the pricey size but very durable and with good driver support for many operating systems.
