Google Chrome is among the most popular browsers in the world, and being the default browser for all Android devices out there, it’s no wonder why so many people use it. While its a never-ending debate which browser is the best (especially now with the new Firefox Quantum), the more casual and average users don’t pay much attention to that, and usually stick to their first or default choice.
Still, that doesn’t mean those or any other users shouldn’t take a look at Chrome’s potential privacy issues. It’s something that’s more or less present in everything that you find on the internet, but it’s important to know what you’re dealing with and how to battle it. With that being said, here are the privacy issues you should be aware of and how can you fix them.
■ Open your Google Chrome, click on the menu icon (the three dots) in the upper right corner and choose Settings.
■ First, if you’re signed in to your Google account, Google automatically syncs all of your data, which basically means a lot of the data is being sent to Google via Chrome. While this does have its uses, if you’re concerned about your privacy, you can tweak a few options by clicking on Sync.
■ In here turn off the option to Sync everything and now you’ll have various settings to turn on or off.
■ You can also just sign out of your account completely by clicking on the Sign out button.
■ After you’re done with that, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click Advanced, to expand the page.
■ In the privacy and security section you also have various options that you can turn on or off, depending on your preferences.
■ Pay special attention to the Content settings. When you click it, you’ll get additional options to tweak permissions for apps and websites.
■ Your privacy isn’t something you should take lightly, so make sure to check all of these settings mentioned in these steps and change them to your liking.
