Google Forced to Filter Porn from Android Market?

Parental controls on the App Store will do about nothing to stop people from getting porn on mobile devices.

This organization is talking about keeping porn away from kids...
Do they not understand that smart phones can access most of the ENTIRE INTERNET, where there is way more porn accessible than in some random porn apps in the app store.

Sure google could added some rating system or add parental controls to the app store, but Its not going to stop minors from searching the internet for porn on the mobile device at all....

Also these kids who have a smart phone with android, I'm sure they will have access to a computer with the Internet as well...

This concept that filter the App will stop minors from accessing porn on the devices makes no sense

Likewise, I feel the Bible should be banned as it is an affront to my beliefs. Or, maybe, you should just learn to accept the fact that not everyone views the world the same way you do (in fact, most of them don't on a world-wide scale) and tolerate/ignore it.

I think that if the parents council spent more time parenting and less time fighting over the porn issue, than their kids wouldnt be trying to sneak everything behind their backs. If somebody is determined enough, they can get anything. Look at China for example, getting around the google firewall. Anything is possible if you try hard enough, this council should stop fighting the unwinnable battle

LOL, I was referring to the Apple Store porn app ban. The PTC was responsible for the ban, where the council wanted to protect the kids from buying porn apps and burning their little virgin eyes.

I see it better now, If The Parents TV Council have "this kind of power" and they could put enough pressure on big companies it may be because they represent some reasonable potential buyers and they may have laws supporting what they are trying to stop. I thought it was just an Apple moralist decision.

On the other hand how manny adults are not going to buy an Android phone because of this? haha. Something like parents making pressure vs an adult content market. Companies may end up making Android phones adult restricted "R". Oh!!

Anyway, are mobile devices harder to control for parents than laptops? Or is this a kind of "new opinion" inside this organization something being debated more and more that is showing their presence these days? I mean, have being manny parents concerned for long with distribution of porn and they now want actively to regain the control they think they lost?

Oh come on, we are not talking skinemax here. A little nudity is one thing and can be appreciated as beautiful, last thing a virgin teen needs to see is 7 old men gang bang a "just 18yo" while slapping her in the face and calling her a whore, that is something completely different. It is getting harder and harder to find porn that doesn't make me want to throw up a little.

On the other hand, I'm not for censorship and think...

1) Parents shouldn't buy smart phones for kids, get one that texts and calls home/911.
2) Any smartphone OS should indeed include parental controls.

Actually go to any random middle school in NYC and about half the 10 year olds have smart phones, most of them with iphones...

And yes, this includes the inner city schools. How parents living on welfare and food stamps afford to buy their 10 yr old kids iphones boggles the mind.

WTF one of the main reasons to buy a droid phone over an iphone is that google doesn't control how the phone is used or the app market. Google don't give in, parents have the option of giving their kids the iphone.

I use my smartphone for e-mail for work and school. WTF does a 16 year old kid need internet for on their phone?
