Hi, can anyone help me out with a method to figure out
which combinations of GPU and CPU in a laptop
would give the best performance in a game, e.g. BF3 / BF4.

(This is regarding bottle-necking I think.)

Which would give better performance in BF3/4 ?

i7-4700MQ 4-Core 2.4GHz (stronger CPU)
AND
Nvidia Geforce 740m (weaker GPU?)

VS

i5-5200U 2.2GHz (weaker CPU)
AND
Nvidia Geforce 940m (stronger GPU)

And for future reference, if I wanted to compare OTHER GPU/CPU combinations
for performance, what's the best way to do that?
(Without having to rely on watching YouTube gameplay with specs/settings in the description lol.)

Thanks in advance. :p

Go with the 940M. In reality, you won;t see much of a performance increase between the i7 and the i5 in game. The GPU however will greatly affect performance. As far as bottlenecking, there isn't any in either one of the builds.

The 940 model, a GPU affects gaming more than a CPU. Bottlenecking is only an issue when you have a GPU that is much more powerful for the CPU to properly handle. The 980 Ti and g3258 non-clocked is a potential bottlenecking issue for example.

The 940+i5 5200 is not a potential bottleneck combo. So you're fine ;)
