gtx 980 or 970

for my gaming pc ive decided to go with either the gtx 970 or the 980. my budget is around 1600 and i know i am getting thr i7 4790k, but i don't know if its worth the extra 200$ on a graphics card thats only up to 20% better. I plan on using my computer for only gaming and video editing/recording and i might get a second 970 in a year or so if no new ones come out by then.

Well, I think that a 20% upgrade is pretty neat.

And for gaming ? Dump that i7 and replace by an i5-4690 - 4670. Get the "K" version if you plan on overclocking...
You can then put the little extra money on the GPU, and get the 980. You really don't need an i7 for gaming. It won't affect AT ALL how your games run.

The GTX970 is 10 % slower than the GTX980, BUT the GTX980 is 60%+ more costly.
2 x GTX970s would GREATLY outperform a single GTX980 and cost less than 100$ more.
