I'm from Chile and my academic info was stolen, luckily there isn't enough info there to steal my identity, but I'm worried about the poor e-security of the government records anyway.

["claiming the information from his agency that appeared on the Internet was not confidential and available to the public upon request."] Also, this paragraph is an all out lie, I can't request such info and it's not publicly available either.

Also, so you may better undestand the situation, the ID number in Chile can't be used to request credits or opening bank accounts (at least not by itself) and it's in no way similar to the U.S. SSN, in fact, the ID number DOES get published in newspapers along with the result of college selections test, but the names, home adresses and telephone numbers does not.
