harddrive delay after root

hi , i use windows 7 and 4 external hardives 2 per machine all 4tb hitachi drives. everytime i click on them they access immediately but when you go into folders they hang, all 4 but wait upto 30 secs they are fine and will work like a dream never a problem after this, but leave the machines which are on all the time and come back the same issue everytime , any ideas guys thanks
 
Solution
The data on those drives may need defragmenting if you've never done it.

Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter

Or you can use a third-party defragmenter, quite a few of them are free and give you more info & features than the built-in one, like telling you how much a drive is fragmented (percentage) so you can decide if it needs doing.

they are all brand new hardrives i cant understand why this would be. also one of them has been defragged and has made no difference, my western digital drives dont do this , i changed as they were 3 tb but these have been doing this since day one
