Am looking to buy a Samsung 4K TV.

Have been searching for hardware information like SOC , RAM, HDMI, etc. (like normally find for smart phones) but have not found any data bases or even reviews listing all this info.

Checked Tizen wiki https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tizen which is the OS used by new Samsung 4K TVs but no links to hardware info.

Could not even find hardware info apps for Tizen (like AIDA64 for Android).

Hope someone else has tried and had better results.

Am interested in any comments or suggestions.

I have only played MP4s from my computer through a direct HDMI connection so far. Worst case you can always convert a video from one format to another with free programs you can get. Mobile Media Converter is free and one of my favorites. If it is critical to play them in their native format, bring a laptop with a few different video formats to a retail store and plug into the monitor you are interested in. I had an old Westinghouse 45" set I got on a Black Friday sale years ago that wouldn't even play DVDs. Even after speaking with Westinghouse they had no idea why and stonewalled me because it was "out of warranty". My best suggestion, again if being able to play a .mov, .mkv or other format directly would be to try it before you buy...

I was recently looking into buying a 4k 65" set and Samsung was on top of my list. That was until I saw the Sony XBRs. They cost about the same and the image quality is much better even on the entry level Sonys. Heck with the operating system, likely the set will have built in WIFi and controls for just about anything. It all comes down to the image quality and one of the biggest differentiating factors is black level. What set in your price range has the best contrast?

URsurrounded Thanks for your comments!

Another thing I recently learned about Sony 4K TVs "The newer TV models use the Android TV platform" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_smart_TV_platforms_and_middleware_software

More Apps for Android than Tizen.

Have you tried AIDA64 https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.finalwire.aida64&hl=en_US on any Sony TVs?

Will try to rephrase my interest in hardware info. Would like to play a number of different video types on my new 4K TV (no extra hardware).

A friend purchased a 2019 4K TV and is unable to play some container videos like MOV and MKV https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_video_container_formats believe he gave up after trying those 2.

Line from an old Star Trek TNG, "there is no substitute for a little personal reconnoiter".

You would have to bring a USB stick with different file types to try on the TV. Using a laptop would be the same as using an external media player so it wouldn't tell you what files the TV could play. It would tell you what files the laptop could play.
TV manufacturers don't have a big incentive to support all video codecs. It's not a priority.
