having trouble trying to retrieve the data from my broken Droid Turbo

The screen is broken on my phone and I am trying to retrieve the data from within it by connecting it to my computer via USB. My computer detects my phone as "android" under Devices and Printers and does not show under Computers in the file explorer. I don't plan on replacing the screen but instead buying a new inexpensive phone to put all my old info in.Is there any other way I can transfer the data from my computer or anywhere else so that it doesn't get lost in the trash?

If the computer won't access the files on the phone as you have been trying to do, then I would say the only way to get it is to fix the display.
