hcl laptop not booting from usb port

hello people, i have a hcl 2004 model lap top, my cd drive is not working at all, i have to install windows xp.....i have made pen drive as a bootable device, but it is not recognising the usb port.........there is a blinking underscore that is coming up......can any one help me??
p.s- is it due to bit32

I'd try installing from a USB CD drive.

thank you for your concern, i have checked the bootable pendrive in other laptops and its working, even in my system, bios is detecting my kingston pendrive as removable device, but when i try a blinking underscore comes up.....can it be to old system as my system is a 32 bit one

Hi, maybe your laptop can't boot from the USB key, only the HDD or the CD drive can be bootable.
