HD141X 3.5mm to Headphone Amp

Hello,

Due to the fact that I've never been able to play loud music in my house, I've always used headphones for watching movies and playing games.

What would happen if I connected the 3.5mm from the projector to an Amplifier such as the SM Pro Audio - Q-Amp?

My goal is to expand the listening to 3 more people, as we have started to watch movies together. I have found this: http/www.amazon.com/Belkin-RockStar-3-5-mm-Headphone-Splitter/dp/B0017PG8KS

But according to reviews this is not what I want, because I want to control induvidual volume myself.

I'll be using Skullcandy Hesh 2 Wireless, and I don't know if that matters or not when purchasing an Amp, because headphones got different specs.

Is this the solution to my problem? Perhaps the quality would be degraded to the point I'll be wasting my money instead?

Projector 3.5mm -> Amp -> Headphones

The source will be blu-rays, and I would love to get the highest quality of sound I can get because I know blu-ray is uncompressed audio.

What would be the best solution to my problem?

I think maybe this is what you want. an audio hub with an amp and individual volume controls. you will need adapters as the outputs are full size.

Thanks for the fast reply. So if I understand this correctly, That's a cheaper alternative to what I had in mind, and there are no complications by using the 3.5mm located on the side of my projector, rather than a receiver, correct?

One last question.

Will the amp you listed be enough to get the most out of my blu ray source, as in spending more money on one isn't going to change the clarity of the sound? I'm aware I use Skullcandy headphones, but if it's worth spending a bit more then I will do so.

Okay, thanks for helping. I'm going to try out different amps so that's not really a problem, I'm just overthinking this for no reason. I'm still curious as to how using the 3.5mm on the side of the projector to an amp won't degrade audio or anything like that, because it's already got one built in?

the built in amp depending on power is good for 1 output. lets say it's a 1.5W amp, divided by four outputs each headset will get a quarter of that .37W. the add in amp will take the input, in our example, 1.5 W, and output 1.5 W x 4. 6W/4=1.5W if your headphones sound good on the projector, the amp will be needed as a splitter will reduce wattage at each set of headphones

Oh okay, so the internal amp inside the projector is just passing a long the signal which gets amplified to 4 outputs? What if the amp inside my projector is bad and I would be getting higher quality audio by buying a receiver and do HDMI -> HDMI between projector and receiver, then use the 3.5mm on the receiver to an amp? I'm asking because you said "if your headphones sound good on the projector", so to me it sounds like my projector is the weakest link, and that weak link will just get amplified? That doesn't sound great in my opinion.

A full receiver will sound better, but the output( headphone jack) will only output a certain amount of watts. (Imagine 600W of output 1 inch from eardrum. not good) even on a nice home receiver will only output 1.5-3W on the headphone jack, divide that by headsets attached, and you get less than you need. you'd still need the same exact amp. remember the signal is uncompressed and doesn't get any better, the wattage directly equates to volume.

your drinking through a straw, three friends show up you wanna share, you put 4 smaller straws into the one you had. you each get the signal/milkshake. the volume of the shake is limited by the initial straw (headphone jack on either receiver or projector). an amp would push more shake up each straw at a time, giving you the same volume/amount at each of the smaller straws as you had when you were alone.

Ah, so I can scrap the idea of getting a receiver if I'll never use speakers because I'll only use headphones? I thought the amp changed the way it sounds before it reaches the external amp. I loved your methaphor.

Quick update, so I got the amp (Behringer HA400), but the bass wasn't loud enough so I went out and bought a pair called Skullcandy Crushers, really I tried all in the store which these ones were the only ones that kicked me in the head with how strong the vibrations were thanks to the battery, and my movie watching experience is fantastic. I'm happy with the audio through the amp and overall I recommend this setup to others, I did it under £30 (excluding headphones), rather than go buy a receiver which would run me at least £100+, and I would still need the headphone amp.
