My Asus VG248QE monitor has a headphone jack at the back and plugging in a pair of AKG headphones that works with my phone and other devices I get no sound. It's not detected at all either it seems. The only thing detected are my regular speakers and my usb headphones. I can't figure out how to make this headphone jack on the monitor even show up and be detected. Anyone got a clue :S?

Hello... Most monitors have a Audio input... and need a Audio cable connection from your Computer... ( DVI and VGA )
Some use the HDMI/Display Port through the Video card... and need the Video card Audio settings thru Windows Control panel-Sound
If you have the proper connections and Windows Audio settings I listed, then check your Monitor control panel for an Audio ON/OFF setting.

I do not. Do I need to have that to get the audio into the headphones? I had no idea :/ I thought just plugging the headphones into the audio jack would do it. If I use a displayport cable will I not have to use an audio cable into the monitor?

Displayport can but its up to the manufacturer to support it. Whether those card and that monitor support audio over DP, I'm, not sure.

Hello.. Most monitors come with a set 1/8" stereo audio cables to Connect... Dollar Stores have the cable... Also check your local computer RE-Cycling store for various lengths and cable Quality.
