For several months now my laptop regularly shuts off with no warning due to overheating, I might be watching netflix, I might be reading. Usually I am playing a game (I game a lot). Now before I get 600 comments with the word "dust" in them Let me say this. NO DUST AND NEW PASTE! The paste did nothing to help the problem. Also I have ALWAYS been using this cooling pad http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834991161

I have also noticed that sometimes after overheating and turning the laptop back on the Fan starts to WHIRL LIKE NEVER BEFORE. It never does that normally, it just let's itself overheat like nothing. However after hearing how fast it can go I WANT IT. My laptop model is an ASUS K55N speedfan and similar programs do not even recognize the fan and BIOS with how limited it is being a laptop has nothing relating to fan speed.

I would recommend updating the computer BIOS from the ASUS's website.

The fan speed is normally controlled in the BIOS unless you have an application installed that is controlling the fan speed.

Disable this crap...

"KEEPING COMPUTING COOL AND EASY
Featuring IceCool Technology, the palm rest and typing surfaces of the K55N stay cool even after prolonged periods of use. This technology strategically places heat-generating components away from the palm rest, ensuring a comfortable typing experience for users."

Just tried updating the bios as you recommended and have spent the last few hours trying to recover from this failed bios update... So now I have a third and even bigger problem. Windows 8 no longer loads, it just tries to attempt automatic repair, fails, restarts, and continues the loop. Yay...
