HELP! Can you use pc headset/mic on xbox 360?

I recently just got back into Xbox, and I have been playing PC recently. So I have a PC headset that I would like to use on Xbox too. I have watched many tutorials, but cannot get it to work. I have a 3.5mm female to 2.5mm female adapter so that I can plug my mic jack from my headset into the controller. The thing is the mic won't work. I've gotten the sound to work, but not the mic. I don't know whats going on, but was wondering if someone does.

assuming both are 3.5mm (not a usb mic) you'd need one of the below likely (and use that 3.5->2.5 adapter or get one of these cables with the adapter already on it).

a straight 3.5mm likely will not work to the controller because of the pin arrangements which are more like cellphone headsets than the seperate jacks used by pc. you will need something along the lines of above (but doubt that you need to do-it-yourself like the instructables link)
