Help! Mackie 1402-VLZ + Stereo Effects Routing?

Clueless person alert!

I bought a TC Electronic Stereo Effects processor. The Mackie has The Aux 1 and
Aux 2 inputs; no problem there.

What I dont get is the output, do I plug the Left to Aux 1 and the Right to Aux
2? If so, does this change anything else I need to know? Is then Aux 1
essentially controlling 'Left part of Stereo processed Signal' and Aux 2 with
the right?

There is also a switch in the back of the processor which routs things
differently, if someone with a clue wishes to explain how it should be set and
why.

Thanx, I stink at this, feel free to email an answer.

Often, people use only one AUX send into a device (like your TC) and
come back out stereo (into a return). Using both AUX 1 and 2 is probably
a waste. But if you don't need AUX 2 for anything else, you can try it.

Ok I gotcha, but what I am inputting is two channels representing Left and
Right on a Nord Lead 3 and Triton. Wont I lose the stereo of the patch?

Wow I stink at this.

I tried the Left = Aux 1
Right = Aux 2

and it doesnt work; meaning a patch which shows real stereo left/right parts,
or panning, has the effect of the Processor, but the patch sound is now as
mono.

Thanx again!

The Aux outputs on the Mackie stereo channels (and most other lower priced
mixers stereo channels) are summed mono. If you need to preserve the
stereo image from a stereo keydoard or synth, you have to use two mono
channels for each stereo instrument & 2 separate Aux outputs for your right
& left stereo.

If you use the reverb in the "send/return" mode, you don't lose the
left/right relationship of the "dry" channels, you add more
information to it from the reverb unit.

If you use the reverb in the "insert" mode, then it's more important
to feed the left and right inputs separately since the output is a mix
of the dry input and the processed signal.

Some signal processors have two independent engines and indeed process
the left and right inputs independently, but many (particularly the
less expensive ones) sum the two inputs that go to the processor
anyway.

I would recommend that you connect the Aux Send 1 to the input of your
processor (chances are one input is marked "mono") and connect the
outputs of your processor the the left and right stereo Aux Return 1
jacks. Set the wet/dry mix on your processor to 100% wet. To add some
reverb to your mix, turn up the Aux Send 1 pot on the channels that
have the signal to which you want to add reverb. Watch the meters on
the processor to be sure you're sending it an adequate level and not
overloading it. Then use the Aux Return 1 pot to bring in as much
reverb as you want.

Well, that's because the auxiliary section is a collection of 1-bus
mixers. It's not just limited to low priced mixers. You usually only
find real stereo auxiliary sends (a level control and pan pot rather
than two level controls) on higher priced consoles, and then rarely
for all the aux sends.

Right. The closest thing I know of with a stereo aux is the Crest XR20.
Auxes 1&2 are linked, the rest are mono, and it's not really even in the
same class with a Mackie.

Thank you; thats exactly what I am trying to do; and yes, each output has its
own channel; meaning Channels 1+2 are the Triton L and R outs, and Channels 3+4
are the Nord L and R outs.

=

Another person mention that the left side of the effects send should also be
labeled mono; and ive seen this with many units, this one does not; it has Left
and Right, two each for both Input and Output.

=

Again thanx for the help; my goal is this: I can hook up the Nord or Triton in
through the Processor straight away, LandR outs into the inputs on the
processor, one out each into a channel on the Mackie.

My goal = have this available to each simultaneously, like a true stereo Aux
Send and Stereo Returns; is the Mackie capable of this? Wow I am dumb about
this.

No worries, I'm having fun with it; T.C Electronics M300 I think is the name.
$199 and a real nice reverb sound for the Nord, what a difference it makes!

Channels 1 & 3 should be panned hard left. Channels 2 & 4 should be panned
hard right. Aux2 on channels 1 & 3 should be all the way down, and Aux1
should be all the way down on channela 2 & 4. The Aux1 pre/post switch
should set to Post (Down). And the EXF to Monitor button (and the Mut/Alt
3-4 buttons for channels 1 - 4 should be Off (Up). The Aux1 Master and
Aux1 return should both be at Unity. Aux2 return should be all the way
down. Aux1 send should feed the TC Left input & Aux2 send should feed TC
Right. The output from the TC should go into the Left & Right inputs of
Stereo Aux Return 1.

Then, it should work.

You're talking about the input on the TC, right? Not the effects send on
the mixer (which is mono). Does ithe unt have any kind of switch for mono
or summed input?

Capable, yes. But you have to kind of trick it. There are always
compromises in building a low priced compact mixer, but IMO Mackie does a
pretty good job with their signal routing, so you can usually make it do
what you need (within reason).

The original signal would still be stereo.
