Finally, I've decided to go for a laptop, and I'm in a dilemma right now., as I can't finalize among these.

I'm willing to shell out around 60-65k for the laptop. I'm an architectural student, so, I'll be doing CAD mostly, and would definitely game a lot. Plus, watch a lot of movies.

The laptops that I've shortlisted are as follows:

Inspiron 15R:

  • Processor: 3rd Generation Intel® Core™ i7-3632QM processor (6M Cache, up to 3.2 GHz)
    Display: 15.6" HD WLED True-Life (1366x768) - ICC
    Memory: 8GB 2 DIMM (4GB x2) DDR3 1600Mhz
    GPU: AMD Radeon™ HD 7730M DDR3 2GB - ICC

Inspiron 17R:

  • Processor: 3rd Generation Intel® Core™ i5-3210M processor (3M Cache, up to 3.1 GHz)
    Display: 17" FHD WLED True-Life (1920x1080)
    Memory: 6GB DIMM DDR3 1600Mhz
    GPU: 2GB Nvidia® GeForce® GT 650M

Both have 1 Tb of HDD @5400RPM. So, the storage space ain't much of an issue.

The Inspiron 15R costs 59k whereas the 17R costs 64k.

I know that the i7 is superior than the i5, but, I'd love to have a bigger screen and 1080p resolution. Will the i5 and the GT-650 be enough for my needs? And ain't the 15R a bit more future proof?

And how good is the 650M when it comes to gaming at 1080p resolutions?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Solution
In terms of gaming:
The quad core i7 is better than the dual core i5.
The 650M is better than the 7730M.

If you have to carry your laptop around a lot then I'd suggest a 15" one. However, if it stays in your room most of the time and you watch movies a lot, then I'd say go for the 17" one.

Thanks.
Though the i7 option would be great, I dont think I'd be able to afford it.
And here, in India, they dont let us customize the 17R.

Either, we've to stick with the i5 variant, or the high end i7 variant.

The i5 is enough for gaming, right? And though the i7 is recommended for CAD works, it wouldn't lag on the i5, right?

Guess I'm gonna stick with the 17R.
Thanks a lot for your wise words. :)
