Hey Folks,

I am in the process of buying a new laptop for University. I am studying Mechanical Engineering, so i am looking for something which can handle light use of CAD programmes. I used to have a Macbook pro and am struggling to come to grips with converting over to Windows 10.

I have done some research and am currently looking at :
-Dell XPS 13 (i7 version)
-Razer Blade Stealth (4K version)
-Macbook Pro 13"

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks

Seb

All three will perform comparably, with the Razer possibly performing slightly slower given it driving a higher resolution (still a good system).

Wouldn't your CAD applications benefit more from having dedicated NVidia graphics, though?

Yes I have looked into them, the only affordable one I haggle found is the Alienware 13. Looking to keep within the £1300-100 price range. Any suggestions?

Clevo laptops are usually a good value. You can often times purchase them without Windows - if you already have your own copy (or can obtain one for a good deal), that saves you a decent amount of money.

Do you need a high resolution display? You can probably find something in your budget with dedicated NVidia graphics if you forego the 3K or 4K panels, and instead stick with a FHD screen (1920 x 1080).
