Help Nvidia 660m frame drops

I just recently bought a Asus g46vw with Nvidia 660m so when playing any game with AC plugged and fully charge I get stable frame rates. Now when I unplug it or if the battery is not fully charge the frames go from a stable 40 frames down to 7 frames then up to 40 frames every 5 seconds. I already tried doing high performance on windows 8 re installing Nvidia driver down grading Nvidia graphics with the same issues. Maybe you guys can help me before the 30 days expires.

Normal, If you unplug the laptop and game, you have about 1 hour before you drain the battery.

The laptop tries to keep charge.

Go to power management in control pannel and goto advance option and select full performance.
But like I say you battery will be drained fast : a laptop is not a good computer for gaming

Thanks for the quick response. I tried that but even if its set on high performance it still does the frame drops.

Did you happen to adjust the performance settings in NVidia's control panel? I believe you can add programs to the list and designate what you want to default to using the dGPU exclusively.

I tried both I change the settings and restore them back to default I talked to Nvidia and Asus they have no Idea what to do. I have the feeling is either a windows 8 problem or a driver that's messing up with the GPU when is off the charger. I did a GPU benchmark with a windows 8 app hoping to get two different scores one high with the charger on and one low with the charger off but both scores came out almost the same so I really dont think is a GPU issue.

I have the same laptop with the same problem. Still have not found a solution. If you do find one please let me know; ill do the same for you.

Well if it only happened on battery, that's normal behavior. But if it happens on AC power as well, then something is wrong (possibly with Optimus).

Your Windows power scheme is set for performance as well?

Set everything in your power settings, and settings in general to Performance while on battery power. That would be the best that you could do. ProStar is correct; this is normal behavior while gaming without the AC plugged in, unfortunately. I mean, the performance shouldn't suffer too much, but it will not perform as well as it does when it's plugged in. This should not be happening while plugged in, though.

These gaming laptops should usually be used plugged in. Although the G46 is quite portable, especially compared to its G75 and G55 counterparts. The battery will not last long at all if you are gaming.

Ideally, yes; keep the AC adapter connected when gaming, and make sure you have everything set for performance. Modern batteries don't really overcharge these days, due to better power management.

I had the same problem before when i bought my new laptop. AW M18X-R2 GTX 660M. I called dell to replace the faulty computer and they did it TWICE. So they sent me a third one with an upgrade to GTX 675M SLI Free! But still FPS drop while unplug. All is new and settings have been set. Maybe when you play High to Ultra settings the battery just can't keep up. So Im fine being pluged while playing. And i got an instant upgrade for free. Cheers!
