HELP! trying to get 120 hz on Alienware m14x r2 with Benq XL2420T

So.. I just purchased a BENQ XL2420t thinking I could hook it up to my laptop with no worries and get to use 1080p with 120hz.. And then reading around I've noticed that hdmi doesn't support 120hz at 1080p and neither does vga.. Only Dual dvi.

I was wondering if it was possible to purchase some sort of adapter to get this to work? any help would be greatly appreciated.. I'm in a real jam here after spending so much money

also the ports I have on this laptop are: HDMI, VGA and mini display port\

If its a newer Alienware m14x r2 then it should have a mini display port. If it does simply buy a cheap mini display port to regular display port cable.

The monitor has display port in. Use that.

you dont need an adapter get a mini displayport to displayport cable if your monitor has display port input

you would need a minidisplayport to dual link DVI-D adapter if the monitor does not support displayport input.

the minidp to dual link dvi-d apapters are only active adapters so you cant accidentally buy a passive one.

Will the GPU in there even be able to push 120 fps to an external monitor?

So, I got the cable hooked it up.. Now I'm not sure if this is normal or not..

Does this mean when its 120 hz it isn't 1080p ?

Select the PC option in the first picture, the options in the bottom picture look lie TV settings which with it showing 1080p is restricted to 60hz

Don't worry about it not saying 1080p its just TV marketing stuff, all the PC options are progressive scanned none will be interlaced.
