Hi,
I have an old Handycam camcorder that I am unable to operate as I do not have a battery and the power adaptor does nothing.

Unfortunately the information about the camcorder is virtually worn off. Under a magnifier I have discovered the following written under the word megapixel on a blue colored area around the window on the side outside of the handycam screen.

V25E with what looks like an ‘R’ or ‘B’ just before the V I am assuming that this an R after looking at the model numbers listed on various sites.
With in the battery housing is the word infolithium with a gold colored box next to it with the letter M printed in it.
The only other marking is the lettering CM16K - only just visible with a magnifier under the word mega pixel and as a plastic stand off on the open up section by the input / output points.

I do not have an old battery from which I can ascertain the product code. However the Power adapter Model number is AC-L10B. Unfortunately this appears not to work. I have checked the power lead by plugging it into another item with the same connection and that is working so it is not the fuse or plug end that is not functioning.

My reason for contacting you is:
I am hoping to get the Handycam working long enough to transfer the 30++ mini tapes to my computer.

A) Is there any other markings that may confirm the model of my Handycam?

B) Is there any possibility that the faded letter before the V could be anything else other than the letter ‘R’?

C) Should the Power Adapter work without a battery connected to the camcorder?

D) With regard to the battery what product number should I be looking for and is it possible to get a spare battery with its own charger?.

Thank you for any help and advice you are able to give me.

With kind regards
Mick

Is it possible that is the Sony DCR-TRV25E? Does it look like this one - http://esupport.sony.com/p/model-home.pl?mdl=DCRTRV25 - found on the Sony site? If yes, you can find compatible battery numbers in the marketing specs - https://docs.sony.com/release/specs/DCRTRV25_sp.pdf
You will definitely need the power adapter to charge the battery. You can find one like it on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Sony-AC-L10A-AC-Adapter/dp/B00061O9P0)
The "M" does indicate the battery type. I have a different model of Sony camcorder and I see the same "M" on the body where you attach the battery and it uses an M Series battery (the two batteries I have are the NP-FM50 and the higher capacity NP-QM71D). You can get a spare or replacement power...

You can get a spare or replacement power adapter and you can get a charger that will charge the battery separately from the camcorder. I hope this helps. Not sure if you can run the camcorder just off the power adapter as I haven't tried that yet.

You can buy that adapter from sellers but they will have their own shipping method as it is not fulfilled by Amazon.
