you can use any receiver. Unless a manufacturer creates the two items (which they would come together in a package) you can interchange just about (not all) TV's and Receivers. You shouldnt have a problem with a normal receiver as long as it has the same outputs as your TV has inputs (HDMI, RGB, S-Video, etc).
If your tv is missing a box that houses all your inputs and connects to the set using an umbilical DVI-D cable, it is probably useless without the media recevier. Can you turn the set on at all?

its a monitor plasma , it originally came with media receiver, i bought 2nd hand without it. it comes on but thats it. it has 2 system cable hook ups in back and thats it no direct to cable or sattellite. i just need to know if pioneer box is only one that can operate. appreciate ur help. thank you
if possible, could you post a picture of what the 2 cable hookups in the back look like? Or, if you know, just tell us what type of connections they are, HDMI, Cable, RGB, etc.
