Hello,
i have an ibm thinkpad 600 it gives error code 161 and 163. accompanied by a lock and computer icon in the top left corner. i press enter to move to the easy set up screen. it then freezes showing the refer to manual screen. I have tried to hold down f1 while powering on. ctrl alt del
nogo please help

If these are BIOS generated...that is before Windows starts to load, then it means the CMOS battery has passed to the great beyond (161) and isn't keeping the system time set (163).

btw... I totally cut and paste this after using GOOOOOOOGLE....

error code 161 and 163 IBM <-- search terms

oh and also... you can buy the replacement battery at wal-mart apparently... man this google is interesting stuff

All motherboards use a standard 3.5V watch battery, just bring the old batt with you to any longs/target/wally mart/grocery store/hardware store/damn near anywhere to match it with a replacement.

I tend to go overboard... but you know it's my own fault I just can't help but click on topics that have a subject of "help" and coming from the home page I don't even know what board im going to... it's like a birthday surprise everytime.
