Hey, new speakers? 5.1?

Hi, I currently have dell a215 speakers stereo speakers. Not even a subwoofer. Spending not much more than £30 quid ($48), would it be possible to get a decent set of 5.1's? I've been looking at Trust Soundforce 5.1 at around £30 and was wandering what improvement it would have.

I have no idea how to tell the quality of the sound other than the price so how much better will the sound be? Obviously the bass would be better with the subwoofer. Would it be unwise to go go for a cheap set when I can get better stereo speakers for the same price but no surround sound.

PS Those speakers need 3 audio sockets. I don't really want to have to buy a soundcard - will I lose much quality using a 3-way splitter?

and i never head of a three way splitter, not that anyone would even want it.

taht motherboard has the sockets to plug in your speakers. front rear and center/sub.
