I know the first thing your going to say is don't do this and why.

Currently bought a soundbar that only has aux/optical/usb inputs and my tv has none of these outputs. So I decided to run it through the receiver.

My current setup is my roku/xbox/bluray go into my receiver inputs. Then my receiver outputs to the tv through hdmi. I have no speakers plugged into my receivers outputs other than a left/right rca to aux cable which goes to my soundbar. The soundbar is not playing any sound this way.

If anyone has any suggestions on fixing this issue it would be appreciated and if any of those suggestions include not using the receiver that would be even better.

Update: I will add the model numbers for the devices when I get home tonight

First, the receiver is an amplifier. The soundbar has it's own amplifier as well, hence why it's said not to connect the two.

Now what outputs on the receiver are you using into the sound bar? what exact receiver?

The receiver is a Yamaha rx-v567
TV is an sharp Aquos lc-42d69u
Sound bar is a Samsung hw-j355

The outputs are left right speaker output RCA.

Solution
The Audio output on that receiver for the L+R only outputs audio if you use an analog input you'll get audio, otherwise nothing.

Thanks this information helps explain why it wasn't working.
