How can i compress AVI files?

So ive been wanting to upload some video game gameplay to youtube that i recorded with Fraps. Fraps records in AVI format and the file sizes are huge, like 6GB for a few minutes. It would have taken me 10 hours to upload a video like that to youtube, so i need to compress them. But how? Any help on how to compress the AVI video files to a smaller file size, but keep good quality, atleast 720p on youtube? Thanks!

use some Program like WinAVI Video Converter [and several others do the same]
you can convert an AVI file to an AVI file - you can even keep the same Resolution
try several different programs, as the seem to have different effiencies on their compressions
you can do a search for a "AVI Video Converter" or a "Video Converter"

I left directions on how to export .avi to .mp4 using Premiere Pro in your other, very similar, post. For compression you could also try MPEG Streamclip (http/www.squared5.com/) or Handbrake (http/handbrake.fr/). Both are free downloads and work quite well. I have both and have used both of these programs.
