How can I download more detailed offline maps for hiking - the OpenStreetMap ?

The 'Maps' app allows maps to be downloaded to Windows Phone for offline use so no data connection is necessary. This is useful. I need a map with more detail though that also shows hiking routes. OpenStreetMap has the level of detail I need. How can I download these more detailed maps onto Windows Phone for offline use?

The 'GPX travel map' app caches Open Street Maps so they can be viewed offline. This is the best option I've found so far. It means needing to view at various zoom levels the area or route beforehand whilst online, which is a little tedious. Have yet to find a way to upload more detailed maps alongside or to replace the default ones, either directly onto the phone or via a SD card. Have read Windows 10 may allow other maps to be downloaded and saved to Windows Phone when it gets upgraded later on. Other solutions / suggestions?

I've read a blog - ubergizmo.com - where a person claims Microsoft will use a virtual machine for executive of Andriod apps in Windows Phone. It follows it could then be possible to use OpenAndroMaps - http://www.openandromaps.org/en/use-openandromaps-in-windows

The 'Vertorial Map' (non-Lite, paid version) Windows Phone app can download OpenStreetMaps for offline use with GPX tracks.
