how can i format a os without loosing the data

Hello,
I updates bios softaware on my dell laptop, after the installtion this went to a reboot then the computer showned a blue screen then the os is not starting. but i installed the windows 7 on other driver on same computer and its working perfectly. how can get my data from the old desktop of pervious os.

Go into your boot drive( C: ), and go into /Windows.old/ to retrieve your files.

u have two os in same hardisk now. That is not desirable. Change of motherboard or some critical works like that makes windows boot to fail. This is a in-built anti piracy mechanism. A simple solution was to run win setup and instead of fresh install, choose repair. Windows then does a reinstall but keeps setting and user files intact.
