How come i can see wireless networks but my laptop wont connect?

Hello,
i can see wirelss networks on my gateway laptop vista is my operating system but when i try n connnect it says cannot connect but i run the diagnose problem n it says their is no problem? any suggestions?

Is the wireless card in the laptop configured correctly? Enter any encryption keys? MAC address filtering? Enable the correct signal type, b/g or n?
