If you post full model number of your sound system, someone might be able to help.

In order to get surround sound, you need media (DVD, BD) with surround sound. YOu won't get surround sound from eg radio, or MP3.

Do they work when you play a blueray disc?
If they don't then check the connections to the speakers and go through the set up as per the manual. If you still don't get surround sound then there may be a problem with the HTS.
If they do work then you need to check the audio output type in the TV audio menu. Change it to bitstream surround sound.
If the content you are watching isn't is surround sound then choose a surround mode like Dolby Prologic.
