How do I connect my Samsung smart TV to cable with no box

Solution
All of the above is true. If your TV has a QAM tuner built in and you want to try it then
Connect the cable from the wall to the antenna input on the TV.
Select cable or QAM in the TV set up menu.
Run channel scan.
If there are any unencrypted channels they will be entered in the channel memory. This can take a while.

If you get BASIC cable, (Which is provided in most areas of the U.S.A.) then you can get cable tv through the rg-59/rg-6 coax that would be provided by the cable company. You simply use the coax and connect that from the wall to TV. Then you have to program the channels on the TV to whatever your cable company provides.

That used to be true, but not so much anymore. Cox, Comcast, and Time Warner (Spectrum) have been encrypting all their cable channels for several years now, even the ones which shouldn't be encrypted because they're available over the air. Verizon in areas with FIOS uses their own system - you need their FIOS modem to convert the fiber optic signal back into a coax cable signal. With Charter merging with Time Warner to form Spectrum, and AT&T merging with Spectrum, that's pretty much all the major cable companies which encrypt basic cable now.

To receive it, you need to either rent a cable box from the cable company, or you buy your own cable box and rent a CableCard (usually about $5/mo) from the cable company. The cable box or CableCard holds the decryption keys, allowing you to view the encrypted channels according to your subscription level.

If your cable TV service is through a smaller cable company (not one of the majors), your chances are better at getting unencrypted basic TV. You may also be in range to pull in over-the-air HDTV with an antenna.

As said there are some OTA (Over The Air), unencrypted stations still but in some places there are NO good channels whereas some parts in North America have a few good channels.

See your TV manual.

Main paid options include:
1) Cable/Satellite packages (Cable needs a receiver box, satellite needs obviously more)

2) NETFLIX or similar paid streaming services (some Bluray or other media boxes have them, though your TV may have Netflix or other programs linked from the Smart menu thus not needing an external box)

3) BluRay, gaming box etc.

your looking at the wrong way to get tv with a smart tv and not get a big bill from cable. with your smart tv make sure you pay for internet service only then look to see if your tv has google firestick or other service built in. your better off paying amazon or another 3 party a small fee to get cable over the internet.

It totally depends WHAT you want to watch and how convenient it is to access it. Every service has its pros and cons.
