how do I correct error in a new memory card?

I just bought a new memory card today and inserted it into my camera, but it did not work, but "memory card error?"" came up on my screen. The camera book is not help. I need some help. thanks

Try it in another camera and also in a computer to see if it's read in other places. Also check the manual to make sure you did not get an incompatible card that your camera can't read (too large, too fast, etc..)
