I shut the tablet off one night and charged it and the next morning I unplugged it and went to turn it on and it just stayed black nothing happened. and everything I look up about fixing tablet is about android or apple I haven't seen anything about a nexus.

Nexis is an Android. Android is just the operating system the Nexus runs on, it's not a brand of tablet.
Try holding in the power button for about 30 seconds, then have it charge for about an hour and try again.
If that does not help, try starting a restore setup but cancel if it before it starts the process or it will wipe the tablet. https
