How do I get the BIOS to detect the new SSD to install Windows 8.1?

I bought an old HP Elitebook 8540p on eBay. The hard drive was cleaned. No OS. I installed more RAM and an SSD. But the BIOS does not detect the new SSD. I reinstalled the original HD and the BIOS detected it. How do I get the BIOS to detect the new SSD to install Windows 8.1?

Go into BIOS and find the setting for AHCI. See what it is set on and try one of the others - IDE or more likely, SATA.

I switched to IDE and it was detected in the BIOS. Thank you. Now I need to try to figure out why it won't start the Windows 8.1 install. If it's not one thing, its another.
