How do I hook my Samsung tv model # UN48J5000AFXZA to my JVC model RX-880V reciever

I just wanna run sound through my receiver & maybe be able to just use my tv volume to control it like the older big screens

I dont think you can, the only way would be using a 3.5mm jack to phono lead and using the headphone output from the tv, and plugging the phono leads into one of the inputs on the receiver. As this older receiver has not got an SPDIF optical input, which is how most connections are made now.

I dont think you can! I have had many systems that the tv or cable box is hooked up to the A/V receiver, and as all the line levels from the tv are at a pre-set level, (except the headphone output ) the tv volume purely controls the TV's own amplifier for its own speakers. And you ideally need the SPDIF optical output from the tv, and that is at a pre-set level. And seeing as that A/V amp is not HDMI compatible, that is out of the question too.

You can convert the optical audio output to analog with one of these

and some cables. You won't be able to use the TV remote to adjust volume because this is a fixed output.
Check the TV manual for details on using the optical audio output.
